Dr V Sumantran is Executive Vice Chairman of Hinduja Automotive Limited, UK, the U.K. based holding group company of Ashok Leyland, Chairman of Defiance as well as a member of the Board of Ashok Leyland. Dr Sumantran serves on the Scientific Advisory Committee to the Cabinet and served on the Science Advisory Council of the Prime Minister of India. He is also a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.
Previously he was Executive Director of the Passenger Car Business as well as the Engineering Research Centre, Tata Motors Limited. Prior to that, Dr Sumantran had spent 16 years with General Motors Corporation, mostly in the US and subsequently in Europe. He has served as President of the Automotive Research Association of India, and Co-Chairman of the Engineering Services Forum of NASSCOM.
Dr Sumantran holds a Doctorate degree in Aerospace Engineering and a Master’s degree in Management of Technology. He is a Fellow of the Society of Automotive Engineers and a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineers.
